Whooo hooo!  Jane just gave me admin rights to this group.  Leo and Amin are so sexy in whiteytighteys!

But yea, seriously, join the group to have some fun and meet new friends here in Xi'an.  We're an easy-going group that meet once in a while to do fun stuff together, under the pretense of "learning languages".  So come join us, we won't bite.  Except maybe Radi.  Yea ... just stay on his good side.

Jose, McGraw & Hill published a text book that teaches Chinese using pinyin, though with the Chinese characters so you can also recognize them whenever you need to read Chinese because pinyin is not a language, but is similar to phonetics to help with pronunciation and tone use.

However, trying to learn Chinese by reading pinyin is not an effective method because you are not able to hear the tones and not know how to properly repeat the tones.  I know because I tried it myself for 3 months and it got me nowhere but getting criticism for improperly speaking Chinese since no one understood me.

What's the best textbook to learn chinese (no writing only pinyin)?
